GSM-R - Global System for Mobile Communications - Rail is a digital mobile standard. It extends the widespread GSM mobile standard for use by railway operators for communication between train and railway regulation control centers. GSM-R became the successor system of many different and incompatible analogue radio systems.
GSM-R is subject to the laws and regulations of each country and can therefore be implemented in different ways. Some networks are completely separated from commercial mobile networks, while in others the two types are combined.
